Blondes are dumb. Blondes are stupid. Blondes have no brains.
Those are some of the ideas about blondes that you may have heard before. You also hear it in blonde jokes, although some blonde jokes say the opposite. Of course you know that they are not true. Well, they may be true for some blondes, just as for some people belonging to any other category. Stupid people exist everywhere. But they are of course not more likely to be blonde than to have any other hair color.
So why are blondes considered blonde?
Everyone is familiar with the blonde stereotype: Blonde girls are sexy, but not very smart. They like to sleep their way to the top, because they don't have the brains to get there the normal way. The amazing thing is that this stereotype has been promoted on the big and small screen by blonde stars during many decades.
In case someone would be in doubt about this: although the stereotype does have some real life examples, it's certainly not applicable to all blondes, nor to a majority of blondes. And you will also find brunettes or redheads corresponding to the same stereotype.
This is not a joke.
Several scientific studies have shown that redheads are resistant to local anaesthetics. This means that when they go to the dentist, it hurts much more than for other people. As a consequence, as is also shown by scientific research, redheads are more afraid to go to the dentist than others, and they often put it off as long as they can, resulting in again an extra painful treatment.
The solution is actually very simple: The dentist just has to give them 20% more aneasthetics than usual. Duh!
I've put together a birthday calendar with the birthdays of some famous blondes. The cool thing is that you can also calculate the age of the blonde celebrities! :-)
Of course the list is far from complete. If you know of any others you would like me to add, please post them here as a comment of post on the facebook page.
